Johnson's photo tints : for colouring postcards, prints and lantern slides.

In the early 20th century, Johnson & Sons was a major manufacturer of chemicals used for photography and cinematography. The offices of Johnson & Sons moved from Finsbury to Hendon in 1927.
Nine glass vials of tints, with cork stoppers and original labels, some with residue of the original colors, manufactured by Johnson & Sons, in the original cardboard box. The box includes a flip-top lid, under which are square slots into which each of the vials are placed. The colors in the set comprise: blue, brown, flesh, violet, green, crimson, scarlet, orange, and yellow. Also present is a small fine-tipped brush, which was presumably included in the original set.
The interior of the box lid includes printed Directions for Use: "All prints before they can be tinted must be soaked in clean water for about ten or fifteen minutes ... The colours are very concentrated and should be diluted by adding a few drops to a little water in a saucer, watch-glass or other small vessel ... Apply the diluted colour quickly to the damp print ..."
Accompanied by a single-sheet advertisement for "Johnson's tinting set." It describes (and illustrates) a close variation of the present set, which is to include nine tints, "two brushes, also two china saucers, one tube of frost tinsel, one tube each of gold and silver powder, and a bottle of medium."
