Notes
James Hart of Coventry produced a number of machine-woven silk patriotic ribbons to commemorate the alliance between Britain and France during the Crimean War. At least one was displayed at the Exposition universelle de Paris in 1855 and he likely designed this ribbon as well. Intended as a border for a ladies dress or shawl, it includes vignettes of soldiers, with small portraits of Victoria and Napoleon III. -
