  • Notes

The name Crescal appears in photographic periodicals from about 1898 to 1908. The firm is listed as an applicant for trade marks in the December 1898 issue of The Photographic Dealer (page 898): "Crescal. 217,162. Artists' colours, photographic chemicals. Photo, Ltd., 72 & 74, Grays Inn Road, Holborn, London, W.C. Photo mount and speciality manufacturers. 20th September 1898."
The box contains eight metal containers of powdered colors and a small brush. Color paper labels affixed to the top of each container provide indications of the colors therein. The hinged box is made of mahogany, lacking the front catch. The underside of the lid bears a printed label describing its contents (transcribed here as the title).
