Christie, Mr. (James), 1730–1803

A catalogue of the genuine, capital, and valuable collection of pictures, by the most esteemed masters of the Italian, French, Flemish, and Dutch Schools : selected by that eminent artist and esteemed connoisseur Benjamin van der Gucht, Esq. deceased : this celebrated collection contains some of the most rare and capital pictures ever offered to the public : comprising the following most remarkable viz. : A Venus disarming Cupid by Corregio, brought to England by Sir William Hamilton : two, a most capital Landscape, and a Sea Port, by Claude : A landscape, a Chef D'oeuvre, by Cuyp : A Ditto by Rubens : and one Ditto, very capital, by Berghem : Le Retour de Chasse, an elegant Cabinet Picture, by Wouvermans : the Judgment of Paris by Vander Werf : A Conversation by Teniers : The Madona and Infant Christ by C. Dolce : The Transfiguration by Julio Romano : several fine portraits by Vandyck, F. Hals, &c. &c. : which will be sold by auction (by order of the administratrix) by Mr. Christie, at his Great Room in Pall Mall, on Friday, March 11th, 1796, and following day, at twelve o'clock : to be viewed two days preceding the sale : catalogues may be had at the room in Pall Mall, at one shilling each.
