  • Notes

A pair of cut-paper flower arrangements, by an unidentified maker. One of the pair depicts a flower-filled basket, the other a ribbon-tied bouquet. The flowers are formed from cream-colored paper, modeled in fine detail, and in three dimensions. The two pictures are in matching contemporary oval molded bentwood box frames, gilt over gesso, with glass fronts and contemporary pink-painted paper lining. The box backs bear early metal suspension loops.
The verso of one of the pair has remains of an eighteenth century paper label, with annotations in black ink. Evidently made by the same hand, the inscription suggests that they were produced in London: "Lady's ... by Mary ... 24 Colvill Court Rathbone Place."
