The Society for the Conversion and Religious Instruction and Education of the Negro Slaves in the British West India Islands was chartered in 1794 to administer the charitable fund willed by Hon. Robert Boyle in 1691. In 1823 the society was incorporated and the name changed to the Incorporated Society for the Conversion and Religious Instruction and Education of the Negroe Slaves in the British West India Islands. Title from the seal's inscription. The seal also bears the date 1793, the year of the Society's founding. -
