George Augustus Henry Cavendish (31 March 1754 - 4 May 1834), 1st Earl of Burlington, known as Lord George Cavendish before 1831, was the third son of the 4th Duke of Devonshire and the former Lady Charlotte Boyle, daughter of the 3rd Earl of Burlington, and is an ancestor of the present Duke of Devonshire.

Manuscript plans of estates belonging to George Cavendish, Earl of Burlington (1754-1834), in the present county of Cumbria, drawn by John Mather, surveyor at Wigan. The plans must have been drawn before 1831, when Cavendish was created Earl of Burlington. Each plan is executed in pen and black ink, with gray and pink wash, pink used to highlight the plots owned by Cavendish. Each plan records details of land usage and ownership of adjoining estates. Each is numbered and titled, and includes a compass rose and bar scale (with measures in chains). On the facing page of each map is a tabular "Survey", in which Mather records the names of Cavendish's plots along with their measure, recorded in acres, roods, and perches. Preliminary pages of the survey include a fine calligraphic title page, in pen and black ink, followed by a leaf containing an "Explanation to the plans" (a key to map symbols) together with an "Abstract", in which the acreage of the Cavendish holdings are totaled. The final preliminary is a "General plan", a map of the portion of the Cartmel peninsula containing the Cavendish estates, with his properties highlighted in pink. The largest estate by far is Holker Hall, which measures 335 acres. The remaining eight estates are here named Winders, Tarn Green, Allithwaite, Marshes, Flodder and Lees Farms, Allotment, Holker and Willis's Farms, and Hollow Oak.
