"The edition of this work is limited to 676 copies ... 1 to 26 will have an additional set of proof etchings, signed, printed on vellum ... 27 to 76 will have an additional set of proof etchings, signed, printed on Japanese paper ... 77 to 176 will have an additional set of proof etchings, signed, printed on Dutch hand-made paper ... 177 to 676 will be printed on Dutch hand-made paper."--Title page verso.
Musical notation and illustrations are engraved. Some numbered pages of notation are blank on verso. Some full-page illustrations are included in pagination; there are four additional, unnumbered plates.
BAC: British Art Center copy is no. 202 of 676, signed by Hubert Herkomer and Novello & Co. Bound in gilt-tooled cream cloth. Three items removed to Suppl. folder: [1] Albumen print of John & Agnes Hekomer dressed as they appeared in "An idyl"; [2] a pen and ink drawing of a woman playing a harp; [3] ALS, in German, dated 1 May 1854, between unidentified correspondents.
