Notes:
Album of 24 gelatin silver photographs depicting the proof testing of howitzers from 1916 to 1918, for the British artillery. The first photograph is of "The Pater" and a couple depict the proof officer on the range. The remaining pictures depict howitzers of various size, including the 4.5" Howitzer, 5.5" BL Mark I, 8" BL Howitzer Mark V, 11" Naval Howitzer, and a Russian 3" field gun. Several other photographs depict an apparatus connected with time fuses. The captions note the names of test ranges ("Barnacle" and "Butterwick"), and the names of officers or ordnance manufacturers. It appears from one caption that the photographs were taken at the Coventry Ordnance Works.
The BL 8-inch howitzers Mark I-V entered service in 1915 and were used by the British throughout the First World War.
Bound in contemporary gray cloth.
