The plates comprise one chromolithographed title page by Owen Jones, 25 tinted lithographs by A. Picken, W. Parrott, H. Warren, J.C. Bourne, G. Moore and T.S. Boys, and one outline map of Yucatan and Central America.
Three of Catherwood's original watercolors reproduced in the present work are in the collections of the Yale Center for British Art, Department of Prints and Drawings: Well at Bolonchen, Yucatan (B1979.12.688); Maya Stela at Copan, Honduras (B1979.12.689); Ruins at Sabachtsche (B1979.12.715).
