Album of drawings, in various media, primarily watercolors, including landscapes, figure studies, portraits, and copies of works by other artists. Most of the drawings are without captions. Three drawings are dated 1851; one is dated 1850. The unidentified artist demonstrates skill, and some of the drawings are clearly quick sketches; the artist signs some of the drawings with the initials "R.W." Media employed include watercolor over pen and black ink; pen and black ink and gray wash; graphite; and pen and black ink.
The only identified view is a drawing of Manorbier Castle, Wales (1850), on p. 39. Unidentified views include depictions of rural scenery in Britain and Italy, including a depiction of the Thames with the pale outline of the Saint Paul's in the distance. A number of views depict antiquities or ruins, perhaps Italian.
Copies of works by other artists include: a figure after [Pier Francesco?] Mola, p. 2; a harbor scene, labelled "Lallemand, 1730," p. 45 -- presumably after Jean Baptiste Lallemand; and "Tableau du Caravage a la Chieza nuova à Rome. Fragonard del", p. 56.
Some of the drawings include faint marginal notes, in graphite, about colors or other technical aspects of the drawing.
The subjects of portraits are not identified.
Some of the drawings are tipped in on stubs of the album. Two drawings, on sheets approximately 8 x 15 cm, are laid in.
