"The seller, Edward Ravenell (or Ravenel?), might have been the Edward Ravenel, d.1775, who was a Director of the French Hospital of La Providence, Hackney. It is unclear how he came into possession of the collection of Sir Peter Killegrew, 2nd Bart., ca.1634-1704, who we are considering a previous owner."--Getty provenance index databases
