Title from hand-written label on the front cover. A similar title, in Urdu (Arabic script), is also present on a hand-written label on the front cover.
Bound in alum-tawed leather, possibly an exotic skin, dyed pink and worked in blind with a series of regular cogged and spoked wheel designs within single and double ruled borders; large floral impression to the center of each board.
Catalog for a range of hand-painted trade goods, probably produced for or by an English agent in India specializing in the import/export of trade goods which were especially popular from the early part of the nineteenth century. The goods are of diverse category and size, including: tables, trays, tea cups & saucers, dishes, teapots, boxes for gloves, tobacco, cigars, stamps and trinkets, cabinets, secretaires, bed posts, candle sticks, letter stands and cutters, and game boards for chess and backgammon.
Each item is identified and drawn in outline (in pen and black ink), with measurements and prices and occasional notes, e.g.: “NB. Beautiful wall cabinets can be made and painted in this style, shape & dimensions being given with precise instructions. The above shows one of them which opens at the front...” The pieces would be ordered from artisans and commercial workshops and passed on to artists and craftsmen for painting, varnishing, enameling and other finishing.
