Title devised by cataloger.
Bound with green paper covers printed in color, brown bookcloth on the spine, and yellow endpapers.
Manuscript alphabet book by an unidentified creator, adapted from an 1896 publication of Divine and moral songs for children by Isaac Watts with printed illustrations by Georgie Gaskin. All of the text has been pasted over with green paper that has been painted with a decorative letter on each page, and only the illustrations by Gaskin from the original book remain. The illustrations by Gaskin were printed in color. The colors used in the decorative manuscript letters echo the colors used in Gaskin's illustrations. The adapted volume was likely designed for a child named "Winnifred" or "Winnie," possibly by her parents, as "W is the only letter in the alphabet that stands for Winnifred" is written in the margins on the page for the letter "W." Many of the pages with a decorative letter have simple rhymes or verses written in the margins. The alphabet is followed by six pages of original nursery rhymes, possibly composed by Winnie's parents, with accompanying drawings in the margins.
