"The work is all made using only glue and cardboard--there is no supporting structure of wood or metal. ... My training was in much more traditional sculptural materials, but I found myself drawn to cardboard when I realized the great expressive potential it could offer. I am attracted to it because of its resonance as a material and its ubiquity, almost as if it was a natural material like wood or stone. It is everywhere around us, but often people fail to notice it and just throw it away ... often slightly irritated at the thought of having to dispose of it. By using cardboard, I can suggest looking at things in a slightly different way, perhaps getting people to pay more attention, inviting them to focus on the objects represented as well as the original material they are made from, calling up memories and emotions connected to their experience of these everyday things."--Chris Gilmour, April 2019.
