The front flyleaf bears the inscription "V.L. Strickland. 1916" in black ink.

Title devised by cataloger.
Bound in original maroon reversed calf, the front cover lettered "Album" in gilt.
Drawings in the album were made by soldiers from British and Commonwealth Regiments. In addition to emblems and crests, there are drawings of animals, plants, and people, accompanied by short lines of verse and notes of endearment. War-related imagery includes drawings of a Mark I tank, and "[the German warship] Dresden, after the fighting with HMS Glasgow." One of the larger drawings depicts a midnight scene at the Birmingham War Hospital, either at Rubery Hill or its annex at Hollymoor. It is possible that the entire volume was compiled while Strickland resided at the hospital.
