Drawings in the present sketchbook are similar are similar to those in Alpenny's New drawing book of rustic figures (London: Ackermann, 1825). Drawings depict figures in rural settings, livestock, horses, soldiers, and marketplaces. Many of the 14 leaves include multiple small drawings. Drawings are inconsistently initialled and dated, "J.S." and "1835".
