The accounts include record of Lucas's activities as oil painter, colorer of photographs, or scene painter. Some entries indicate work performed on behalf of his uncles, John Lucas and John Templeton Lucas. In the latter part of the volume, Lucas works directly for clients with greater frequency, and the sums for his services increase (e.g., his sale of "For King & the Cause" to Mr. Twinberrow for 220 pounds, on March 28, 1876). The latter part of the volume also includes mention of copyright sales.
