The album includes hundreds of plant specimens collected during travels in France in Switzerland, 1829-1831. Each mounted specimen is accompanied by a note on the place and date it was harvested. Interspersed with the plant specimens are approximately twenty fragments taken from tourist or cultural attractions, such as a small piece of wallpaper "from the bed-room where Napoleon slept on his way from Elba to Paris, l'Hotel des Cinq Mineurs, Joigny."
The identity of the compiler is not recorded, but she may be Georgina Lucy Byron, based on the album's references to members of the Brassey and Byron families.
