- "[The] famous Apostle jug ... was produced in huge quantities and set a standard by which virtually all relief-moulded jugs are now judged ... It has been suggested that this design was based on sixteenth century Rhineland stonewares, but Meigh must have adapted it in an attempt to profit from the early nineteenth century popularity of the revived Gothic style."--Henrywood.

The octagonal body is molded with ecclesiastical figures in eight Gothic niches. The angular loop handle and curved mouth and lip include designs of bearded masks and Gothic ornament. - Subject Terms:
