The box includes original brass hinges and latch. The underside of the box lid bears a printed label, on red paper: "G. Blackman , Senr., superfine colour preparer, London. Late of Oxford Street."
The box is divided into three sections of compartments. The top row includes slots for 12 paint blocks. The blocks show moderate usage.
The middle row includes three removable mixing trays.
The narrow bottom row is empty.
