Preface discusses relationship between painting and photography ; that picturesque scenery taken by photography had hitherto 'retained that artistic features which render painting and engravings so pleasing to the eye'.
BAC: British Art Center copy bound in inlaid bird's eye maple binding with bands of darker wood. Gold covered leather central shield with Scottish arms in red laid into central front cover.
