"Précis historique de révolutions de Naples et de Sicile" (v. 1, pt. 1, p. [1]-56) by S. R. N. Chamfort.
The title vignette in vol. 1, engraved by Augustin Saint-Aubin after Honoré Fragonard, depicts an allegory of the city of Naples. The head- and tail-pieces in all vols. are engraved by Jean Duplessi-Berthax after Augustin Saint-Aubin or Pierre-Adrien Paris, by Pierre Philippe Choffardafter Jean Duplessi-Berthax, Bénédict Alphonse Nicollet, and Charles Nicolas Varin, also by Nicollet after Honoré Fragonard. In vol. 1, pt. 1, p. 208 a full page ill. depicts an eruption of Vesuvius, engraved by Carl Guttenberg after Hubert Robert.
Illustrations in vol. 1, pt.1.: three maps on double-leaves, by Sieur Clermont: the kingdom of Naples and Sicily, based on maps by Rizzi Zannoni and Samuel von Schmettau, unsigned, dated 1780; the kingdom of Naples, based on a map by Rizzi Zannoni, dated 1780, engraved by Théodore Toussaint Drouet and Perrier; map of the Golf of Naples, based on a map by Don Carlo Weber, dated 1778, engraved by Perrier and Claude Niquet; a plan of Naples, engraved by Perrier, and forty-seven plates depicting topographical views of architecture and monuments in Naples, paintings by Neapolitan artists, and scenes of social life and customs, including a carnival scene called "Pillage de la Cocagne".
Illustrations in vol. 1, pt. 2: map, on double-leaves, of the "Golfe de Pouzzoles", by Perrier and Théodore Toussaint Drouet after Mrs. de laVega, dated 1780; and eighty-four plates depicting mainly Greek and Roman antiquities from Herculaneum and Pompeii, including plans of the amphitheater and the Caracalla circus in Herculaneum.
Illustrations in vol. 3: one hundred ill. on ninety-three plates, including two folded maps; also two separately numbered folded maps. Two of the maps are of southern Italy and Sicily, and two are of the kingdom of Naples. Another unnumbered map of southern Italy has caption: "Fragment de la carte Theodosienne, publiée à Venise en 1591 par Marc Velser, &connue sous le nom de Carte de Peutiger ...", by signed: "Beaublé scripsit" (i.e. Claude Louis Boblet). The plates depict topographical views,antiquities and architectural sites in the kingdom of Naples.
