Some leaflets addressed to Samuel Torner. His autograph on inside front cover, dated 1797.
Title on case: Collection of oddments belonging to Sam Torner [1789-1797].
Contains catalogues of optical, mathematical and astronomical instruments, excerpts from a book of sermons & another on plants. Also a pamphlet entitled: Premiums offered by the Society for the Improvement of Naval Architecture. London, 1793.
Includes prospectuses for books published by W. & J. Jones, Lackington & Allen, John Stockdale, Eyre & Strahan, Darton & Harvey, etc. and for books written by J. Pugh, W. Lewin, James Sowerby, etc. on mathematics, travel, natural history, gardening, etc.
Also includes miscellaneous leaflets advertising exhibitions, courses & schools, clothing (especially hosiery and hats), fireworks, auctions of horses and furniture, bankruptcy sales.
Also bound in are playbills, lottery announcements (and 1 ticket), and tickets for admission to trial of Warren Hastings (1732-1818).
