BEIN: Karpinski 4955. (1981 Folio 15)
BEIN: Vol. 1 matches Koeman, C. Atlantes Neerlandici, Bl 72, except that frontispiece is misbound before the text proper, the t.p. lacks "Cum Privilegio Sacrae Caesareae Majestatis", as does the t.p. of the 1st part, also the dated privilege is missing, the "Ad lectorem" being bound between them. PLates (37)-(40) are wanting; plates (58) and (59) are misbound (?) one in place of the other. The plan of Bononia (Koeman 11), has a pasted on addition on the left fore-edge showing a continuation of "Conduce a.P. Carmel Scalzi" (no. 95 in the explanation)
BEIN: Vol. 2 matches Koeman Bl 73, except the frontispiece wanting, the "Cum Privilegio Sacrae Majestatis" on t.p. and "In Titulum" (poem) on verso wanting. The plan "Roma vetus" is without dedication, plate (6) is bound between p. 132 & 133, plate (7) between p. 124 & 125, plate (9) between p. 150 & 151, plate (12) between p. 202 & 203. Plate (18) is missing as in Koeman copy.

Vol. 2 has title: Civitatum et admirandorvm Italiæ pars altera in qua vrbis Romæ admiranda ævi veteris & huius seculi continentur; and a half title: Partis secundae, sectio prima, in qua circi, et obelisci, circorum olim ornamenta, necnon theatra, amphitheatra et naumachiae describuntur; and frontispiece: Antiquitates et admiranda Urbis Romae.
Pagination and signing idiosyncratic throughout.
Woodcut initials and tail-pieces; marginal notes.
Vol. 1 has 74 illustrations and v. 2, 41 illustrations.
Plan of Bononia in v. 1 has extension pasted on left edge for the reproduction of the whole of Conduce a. P. Carmel Scalzi, no. 95 in the directory. Following p. 110 are 9 unnumbered, irregularly signed pages, which however continue the text coherently.
Each section of v. 2 is separately paged: Roma vetus, 54 pages, De circis et ludis circensibus romanorum, 40 pages, De obeliscis, 315 pages, De amphitheatris theatris forumque spectaculis, 50 pages In the final series, pages 33-40 omitted in pagination.
Section on obelisks in v. 2 utilizes 16th century plates from D. Fontana's description of the raising of the Obeliscus Vaticanus, Delle transportatione ... Replacement explanations of 2 plates have been pasted over text on p. 296 and 304.
Blaeu also published in the same year a complementary work on the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily not part in this set entitled: Theatrum civitatum nec non admirandorum Neapolis et Siciliae regnorum.
