First English-language edition of Emmanuel Bénézit's Dictionnaire critique et documentaire des peintres, sculpteurs, dessinateurs et graveurs, based on the 14-volume French edition published in 1999. Includes a number of new and updated entries--Preface.
Managing editor of the English edition is Christopher John Murray; project manager is Karen Beaulah. Important contributors to the original French edition include Jacques Busse and Christophe Dorny--Cf. v. 14, p. [1457].
Includes records of sale prices achieved at auctions for many of the artists listed.
