Chess diagrams are printed in green, red and black.
This is a very early use of color printing for a practical rather than aesthetic purpose. cf. R. McLean's V̲i̲c̲t̲o̲r̲i̲a̲n̲ b̲o̲o̲k̲ d̲e̲s̲i̲g̲n̲ (p. 35) who incorrectly cites Lewis's C̲h̲e̲s̲s̲ f̲o̲r̲ b̲e̲g̲i̲n̲n̲e̲r̲s̲ (1835) as the earliest.
