Wenman's | Mare Flora."; inscribed in pen and brown ink, center left: "br?ight yellow" | red darker (mix[L]"; inscribed in pen and brown ink, lower left: "all bluish black | to the line above"; inscribed in pen and brown ink, upper right: "mane to be platted"; inscribed in pen and brown ink, upper right: "blackish"; inscribed in pen and bown ink, center right: "Eye black, rather | small, and no white | seen."; inscribed in pen and brown ink, lower center: "a fleshy spot"; inscribed in pen and brown ink, lower left: "Took this draft aug. 9. 1749."; inscribed in pen and black ink, lower right: "S. Gilpin."
Watermark of which Churchill writes "SP 36/80 f 131, Crowder's Liberty. Crowder may have been an English paper-maker, but more probably an importer." CHurchill dates the watermark 1745. (Churchill, W.A. Watermarks in Paper in Holland, England, France, etc., in the XVII and XVIII Centuries and Their Interconnection. AMsterdam: Menno Hertzberger & Co.1935, 69).
