A late 19th century collection of original brass stencils used by a surveyor, chart-maker, or architect in preparing his plans. The majority are accompanied by their original folded paper envelopes with a stencil made on the outside for easy identification. The stencil patterns include terms and phrases such as: - in the County of; in the Township of; Plan referred to; side elevation; end elevation; plan; section; drawing no.; surveyed and drawn by. There are also stencils composed of individual strips of letters & numbers; various scales; and one stencil for small trees. In total, there are 42 separate designs (envelopes) and 91 individual stencils.
