...The Bastion being taken, the Assailents push saps forwards to the Wall which shuts the Gorge of the Bastion, & charge their Mines in readiness; They make breaches with their Cannon in the Battlements, & summons the Besieged to deliver the Place, in case of refusal which is not frequent after such Advances are made, the Besiegers prepare for a general Assault. They spring their Mines, pass over the ruins of the Breaches, & push the Enemy to the Grand Retrenchment, which covers the inside of the place, which they attack in several parts at once. As the Forces are cut off or advance forwards they are supplied with fresh ones, so that there are always Battallions which possess the Breaches, the Ditch, the Lodgment on the Covert Way; and when the Grand Retrenchmen can't be forct, they lodge themselves on the Rampart, or at least on the Breach
